Our PTSD/Trauma Treatment Program for Women
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is categorized as an anxiety disorder that can affect people after experiencing a traumatic event such as a natural disaster, war, or an assault. While PTSD is often thought of as affecting male soldiers during or after wartime, PTSD and trauma is common in women. According to a report by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs five out of ten women experience a traumatic event.
Statistics show a little more than half of all women will experience at least one traumatic event in their life with the most common trauma for women being sexual assault or child sexual abuse. About one in three women will experience a sexual assault in their lifetime. Rates of sexual assault are higher for women than men. Additionally, women are also more likely to be neglected or abused in childhood, to experience domestic violence, or to have a loved one suddenly die.
Women are at a higher risk for PTSD and other related forms of trauma if they experience the following:
- Have a past mental health problem
- Were sexually assaulted
- Were injured during a traumatic event
- Lack proper social support after the traumatic event
Signs of PTSD/Trauma & Treatment Options for Women
